As we recognize Men's Health Month this June, it's important to understand that men face unique health challenges that often go unaddressed—they die about 5 years earlier than women and are far less likely to seek preventive care or mental health support. This isn't about taking resources away from other groups, but rather recognizing that true health equity means everyone gets the care they need.
In this volume, you'll learn about the specific barriers men face in healthcare, the cultural factors that keep them from seeking help, and why addressing men's health actually strengthens our entire community's wellbeing.
Make it a great week 🙌🏾

Why Men's Health Matters in the Health Equity Conversation 🧔🏾♂️🩺
When we talk about health disparities, we often focus on women and marginalized communities, and rightfully so. But here's something that might surprise you: men face their own unique health challenges that deserve attention too.
The Numbers Tell a Story
Men in the U.S. die about 5 years earlier than women on average, according to the CDC. They're also:
- Less likely to visit a doctor for preventive care
- More likely to avoid seeking help for mental health issues
- At higher risk for heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers
It's Not About Taking Away from Others
Supporting men's health doesn't mean taking resources away from women's health or other groups. Think of it like this: when everyone gets the care they need, our whole community gets stronger.
What's Really Going On?
Many men grow up hearing they need to be "tough" and handle problems alone. This can lead to:
- Skipping regular check-ups
- Ignoring warning signs of serious illness
- Not talking about depression or anxiety
Moving Forward Together
True health equity means everyone—regardless of gender—has access to quality care and feels comfortable seeking help. When we include men's health in these conversations, we're not playing favorites. We're recognizing that health disparities affect people differently, and everyone deserves support.
The goal isn't to compete for attention, it's to make sure no one falls through the cracks.
